Love What You Have To Do

Posted by rspadinger On November - 4 - 2008

Are there certain things in your life you absolutely dislike, but you still have to do? Then you are not alone. But what can you do?

There are several stages:

First of all, you should stop fighting and accept your current situation
Second you should get clear what you really want
And third, you should take appropriate action in order to get what you want and leave behind what you no longer want.

Today I want to focus on the first point: Accepting your current situation. And yes, you understood me right when I said stop fighting. Most people tell you, to fight to get out of your “hell”, but that’s often the surest way to get even deeper into it.

So, stop fighting, stop struggling, take a few steps back and calm down. Your current situation is your own creation, it’s the result of your past actions (and thoughts and emotions). But this also means, whatever you do today will create your tomorrow.

Life is fluid and it can change completely within only a few days or weeks. When you fight against what is, then in most cases you make this “what is” even bigger. Instead of allowing yourself to let go of what you don’t want any longer, you make it even bigger.

So, the first step must be to completely accept whatever your current situation is. Look at your circumstances from some distance, and you will realize that you are probably still better off than millions of others who are terminally ill, starving, who have lost everything…

Calm down, make peace and stop hating your situation. People often tell me, they hate their work, although they aren’t really that bad off. Learn to love whatever you have to do, turn it into a meditation.

For example, you have to clean floors and hate it. Do an experiment, from now on do your work with love, while performing your work, go within, feel the peace, turn your work into an art… and you will start enjoying whatever you have to do.

However, be careful with what your mind will be telling you. It can quickly destroy your newly found bliss and harmony. Your mind might tell you all kinds of stupid things, like: “As long as I have to do this work, people won’t respect me… no one wants to do this kind of work, but I have no choice… it’s the least rewarding job… only uneducated, stupid people do this kind of work…

Don’t listen to your mind, listen to your heart. You can find bliss and fulfillment in any activity and that’s far more important than only having a so-called “highly respected” job.

So, whatever you have to do, learn to love doing it – it’s highly rewarding and absolutely possible if you stop listening to your mind-chatter and stop worrying what others might think of you.

Get at peace with whatever you have to do right now, love it and enjoy it – this might sound ridiculous, but it’s very possible and surely the best way to replace anger, frustration and hate with happiness.

Once you reach that stage, it will also be very easy for you to move on to something different and to leave behind what you previously disliked so much.
